It’s officially craft fair season! With that comes tons of prep for the big day. It’s easy for craft fair vendors to put countless hours into the creative process and product preparation but fail to prep themselves in small ways that make the day go by smoothly.

We we LOVE about Stanley Marketplace

With the new year brings new opportunities. We love the Mile High City and have treasured our time at the McNichols Building, however it is time for a change. We are super excited to announce our new home for our Holiday 2019 Fair in Denver this December 14th & 15th……The Stanley Marketplace!

Stanley Marketplace is a community of 50+ independently owned Colorado businesses that offer something for everyone. Whether you are into yoga or kickboxing you can jumpstart your day with a work out, while your mini-me enjoys a kids gymnastics class. Then recover with an amazing lunch or dessert from one of the many restaurants and treats within. Later in the day (or right after, no judgements here!) grab a drink with your friends at Cheluna Brewing or if wine is more your thing, head to Infinite Monkey Theorum!

What we love most is the fact that Stanley believes in bringing people together and making them happy. That goes right along with what we at Jackalope aim to do, create a community meets artisan event where local culture meets craft. We both want to bring people together to connect and collaborate.

Something else that brings us together is that our Jackalope mascot is referred to as Stanley, Melissa gave him that name when we first began….how cool is that?! If that is not a sign, well by golly I do not know what else is.

What we LOVE about Denver

As we head into our fifth year hosting fairs in Denver, we want to take a moment and let you in on some of our favorite fun facts about the Mile High City!

Sunshine

Fun Fact: Something we love most about Denver is that it has over 300 days of sunshine per year! Denver has more annual hours of sunshine than San Diego and even Miami Beach.

Colfax Avenue

Fun Fact: Colfax Avenue is the longest commercial street in the USA just over 26 miles, and is home to a unique assortment of eateries, bars, and music venues! Playboy once referred to Colfax as "the longest, wickedest street in America." One of our favorite landmarks are the neon signs that still exist on Colfax playing tribute to its past!

Beer!

Fun Fact: The first permanent structure in Denver was a saloon, which makes sense since now there are over 75 breweries with a Denver address! It is no surprise that Denver hosts the largest beer fest in the nation, The Great American Beer Fest. Shoutout to Diebolt Brewing who has hosted our Denver Fair mixer the past 3 years.

Art

Fun Fact: There are seven art districts in Denver and over 70 galleries in Denver alone. This includes Rino, Golden Triangle, Arts District on Sante Fe, South Broadway, Cherry Creek North, South Pearl Street, Tennyson, and 40 West Arts District. We also love all the street art that is taking over the city making it one large art gallery.

The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa

Fun Fact: Except for Calvin Coolidge, every US President since Teddy Roosevelt has visited this famous landmark. Also unique, there is a bee colony on the roof and the honey is used for afternoon tea!

The Denver Mint

Fun Fact: The Denver Mint is the single largest producer of coins in the world. You can tell if a coin is made in Denver by a D mark. I still remember the tour I took back in elementary school, a school staple growing up!

The Outdoors

Fun Fact: Yes we know Denver is not in the Mountains, however it is so close that the outdoor active lifestyle is still relevant. In fact there are 200 named peaks visible from Denver and the city boasts more than 5,000 acres of traditional parks and parkways.

What we LOVE about Burbank

Getting ready for our first step into Burbank this spring, we’re so inspired by everything that makes this city great!

Animation

Known as the Media Capital of the World, the motion picture business moved to Burbank in the 1920s. Per square mile, Burbank has more animation studios and production facilities than any other city in the world. In 1937 Disney created the first sound and color animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We are also very excited to embrace animation and work with The Creative Talent Network (CTN) for the Downtown Burbank Arts Festival!

The Equestrian Center

For the horse and nature lovers! It’s also a starting point to endless horse trails throughout Griffith Park.

Burbank Airport

A breeze to get to, worlds simpler than the horrors of LAX, how can we not have the Hollywood Burbank Airport on this list!

Street Art

The first thing we noticed about Downtown Burbank was all the awesome street art. Which makes sense since Burbank is full of creative professionals and a large part of the entertainment industry. It is great to have the city reflect the artistic spirit that is within!

Warner Brothers

Part of the “Big Six” major American film studios, WB has called Burbank home since it was founded back in 1923. We highly recommend this studio tour, it is one of our faves and if you are a Gilmore Girl fanatic like me, you get to take a step into Stars Hollow!

Bobs Big Boy

Home of the original double deck cheeseburger, the restaurant was built in 1949 and is the oldest remaining Bob’s Big Boy in America! It was declared a historical landmark in 1993.

What we LOVE about Pasadena

As we head into our fifth year hosting fairs in Pasadena, we want to take a moment and let you in on some of our favorite fun facts about the city we call home.

Rose Parade

A city staple since 1890 and something that Pasadena is known for, near and far.

Fun fact: You don’t have to wake up early / go out in the cold to see the floats in Pasadena New Years Day. Our favorite way to view floats is to check them out in the days following the Rose Parade, when they are lined up on Sierra Madre Blvd. Then you can actually get close enough to smell the flowers!

The Huntington

Tip: Make a reservation for the Rose Garden Tea Room! A great way to spend the afternoon. Wondering when to go?! There’s free admission on the first Thursday of every month with advanced tickets!

City Hall

Nothing makes a day of bureaucracy better than heading into a beautiful building to take care of it. Pasadena’s City Hall is a spectacular site, and one of the prettiest we’ve ever seen.

First Ever Trader Joe’s

That’s right! Home of the tiny parking lots started right here on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena in 1967.

Caltech and JPL are here!

Pasadena is home to some of the biggest names in education and tech, with JPL and Caltech both residing within.

Hiking

Eaton Canyon and more, hiking is right around the corner with views that can show you all of LA from the Northwestern corner in Pasadena!

Pro tip - If you head to the falls in late summer odds are the waterfall will be more of a sad trickle.

Wild Parrots

There are several theories out there on the origin of the wild parrots found all over Pasadena. What we do know is that they’re loud, and travel in huge packs! It’s a bit of a love-hate relationship here…. depends on the time of day.

Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair 2018: A Year In Review

2018 has been a BIG year for Jackalope on many fronts.

As many of you know, there are just two of us at the helm of Jackalope. When life events happen, you gotta take a moment and celebrate the time!

We started off the year celebrating Melissa’s marriage in the Dominican Republic!

Then, just two weeks later, we hit the ground running with our first spring fair of the year in Pasadena. The weekend was full of Jackalope Cheers, friends, pets, and fun!

Moving right along, we made it to Denver in May for our spring fair there. Where artisans hosted workshops for guests, amongst the handmade shopping galore and where we helped raise awareness for the Zane Beadles Parade Foundation!

Next up was a first for us! The 1st ever Jackalope Summer Nights came to Pasadena in August where guests could shop into the night and enjoy a drink at the beer garden.

In September, we welcomed a couple new interns to our team! Shout out to Alyssa and Chloe, they both killed it this year. Alyssa will be continuing with us in 2019 so keep an eye out for her! She is a freshman in high school and has already started her own business, ALJ Skincare- she is a Jackalope vet ;)

And before we knew it, the year was passing us by and it was time for our fall fair in Pasadena!

Our final fair wrapping up show season we celebrated in Denver this December! One of our favorite parts of this Holiday fair is sharing the holiday cheer with our fair beneficiary, Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies. We just love those pups and having them get involved in the event!

And (drum roll please)…. we ended the year with a fun announcement. A new addition to Sara’s family is coming to the Jackalope team in 2019.

Looking ahead to 2019, we can’t wait for more fun in Pasadena and Denver, and we’re SO STOKED to expand our Jackalope Community to Burbank as we join their 16th annual Burbank Arts Festival!

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has helped to grow our Jackalope Community this year and we look forward to seeing you in 2019!!!
