Where are you from & how does that affect your work? CreaTiffity Studios is home to creative jewelry-making duo Tiffany Lytle and Roger Buster. We are proudly founded in Santa Barbara, CA. Although we are not originally from Santa Barbara, we have been lucky to call SB home for almost a decade! Our Santa Barbara Tiles to Go collection is a love letter to the architectural beauty found all across downtown Santa Barbara and across Southern California.
What is your biggest influence? CreaTiffity Studios’s Tiles to Go and Tarot to Go collections celebrate two bodies of work: tile patterns found on Santa Barbara buildings, and the legendary Rider-Waite tarot card artwork of Pamela Colman Smith. Our design and collage sensibilities are also deeply influenced by the bold colors and lines of early 20th-century cubism and constructivism, as well as the postmodern artist’s penchant for translating recognizable images into surprising new forms.
What is the hardest part of the creation process?
Design is often a joy, but the process of hand-sealing our collage bezels can be a heart-breaking process, since some beautifully cut pieces are inevitably lost to the bubbles and blemishes that are the bane of any artist who works with resin. Jewelry work also involves a lot of patience— we drop things. A LOT!
What's your favorite item that you've created, and why?
Don't make us choose a favorite item-- there's too many! Our favorite necklaces to design are our charm-keeper necklaces/ charm sets. Our unique dangle necklaces are a great representation of our design sensibilities and highlight our signature Tarot and Tiles to Go bezels in an irrefutably distinctive CreaTiffity style.
What do you love most about Santa Barbara? Santa Barbara is chock full of architectural beauty, which makes it fun and enriching to walk all around town! We are also vendors and organizers of small pop-up markets around town— the community we’ve built around us is warm, supportive, and loving! We love SB’s creative community!
What is a fun fact about yourself that other may not expect? CreaTiffity Studios’ co-founders Tiffany and Roger Buster both have non-jewelry-related PhDs from UC-Santa Barbara. Jewelry making and growing into full time creative work is way more fun than school!
